Last night as I was lying in bed getting ready to fall asleep, I started to think about the 40 days of healing prayer that begin today. The question that kept churning in my mind was this – what was it within me that was causing the appearance of discord and disharmony within our government and country? And the answer appeared as the quote “as within, so without.”
Yes, as much as I hated to admit it to myself, there was something within me that had bought into aspects of the “us versus them,” Republican vs. Democrat, liberal vs conservative mindset. Yuck! I had been waging my own internal dialogue about what I perceived to be “right” versus “wrong” in Washington – with policies, politics and politicians – that was not always loving, and did not come from a place of recognizing the unity of all that is. I had, horror of horrors, bought into the sense of separation that is so apparent any time one turns on the news, particularly the news coming out of Washington. And I realized that this 40 days of healing was just as much about healing myself of this belief in separation as it was about healing the nation of “politics as usual.”
Everything that I perceive to be wrong “out there” is really just an opportunity for my own healing. “Metaphysician, heal thyself,” is my new mantra! It is by creating the shift within ourselves that we can be a healing presence for others. How powerful would it be if each one of us committed to heal within ourselves any beliefs about “the other” that exist in our own consciousness, and to embody a consciousness of unity with all life and a recognition of the wholeness of everything?
So this morning, with last night’s epiphany in mind, I launched into Day 1 of healing prayer and meditation holding our government in love and light, affirming that each participant is working for the best and highest good of the nation and every resident. And I did a little Ho’oponopono, as described in the book No Limits by Joe Vitale and Ihaleakala Hew Len, for a few of the politicians that I perceive to be among the most divisive. In the book, Dr. Hew Len explains that “in the ancient Hawaiian healing process of ho’oponopono, the individual petitions Love to rectify errors within him. You say, ‘I am sorry. Please forgive me for whatever is going on inside of me that manifests as the problem.’ Love’s responsibility then is to transmute the errors within him that manifest as the problem.” So, visualizing each politician in my mind’s eye, I repeated the following to God to initiate a cleaning process within me: “I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.” I feel lighter already.
That’s the beauty of ho’oponopono it is about taking 100% responsibility.

Good morning on day 2 of 40 days of prayer for healing. I cannot wait until you post day 2 to share with you my gratitude for the healing process of ho’oponopono. What a cleansing mantra. Yesterday, I was in the middle of a mess related to health insurance issues. It was a microcosm for what is happening on the political scene and it was so easy for me to get drawn into the negative vortex. After reading this post, I began to use the mantra – you cannot hold more than one thought at a time so it allowed me to clear my mind and hence refresh my energy. I went back to an email that had been sent and realized that the solution was so simple and was there all the time. This morning during my morning prayer I said the ho’oponopono and then I had the most amazing image. I saw Jesus, the Dalai Lama, Buddha, Ghandi and all the great spiritual teachers in Congress holding spiritual caucuses and creating peace and harmony. I heard and saw Jesus raising his arms and saying “Peace” as He did to still the waters. I then saw everyone receiving the laying on of hands as I did by twelve priests when I converted to Christianity, one of whom was Henri Nouwen and felt the healing power permeate the souls of all. I felt the energy break through the walls of ego and through the walls of the Senate and House and White House and extend to every world leader. And then one by one, each person focuses on creating a world of abundance, cooperation, peace and being pulled into the vortex of LOVE and LIGHT!

My dear fellow traveler – This morning as I focused intention on creating harmony I kept hearing the phrase “Be the change you want to see in the world.” I released the disgust I felt with the status quo and realized that if you are not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem. I focused love emanating from me to all the corners of the earth. I embraced everyone with love and thought about the spirit of cooperation demonstrated in the Olympics. And then, there was a Coca Cola commercial that played in my mind – I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony — and everyone lights a candle and sways back and forth. I cannot wait to see what images are released and what is brought forth in tomorrow’s prayer to heal the world.
