Prayer of St. Francis

St Francis of AssisiLord, make me an instrument of your Peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow Love;
where there is injury, Pardon;
where there is doubt, Faith;
where there is despair, Hope;
where there is darkness, Light;
and where there is sadness, Joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to Console;
to be understood, as to Understand;
to be loved, as to Love;
for it is in Giving that we Receive,
it is in Pardoning that we are Pardoned,
and it is in dying that
we are born to eternal Life.

    Good morning – as I began to imagine love and healing for our leaders, I was drawn back to my own world. How do I perpetuate divisiveness? What words and thoughts do I harbor toward those who may not ‘agree’ with me? And so after saying “I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me. Thank you,” I was inspired to imagine each person with whom I have experienced conflict, hurt and anger. I said to each one, I am grateful you are/were in my life. Thank you for being a part of my life. I love you and I like the way you….. I will admit for some people it was hard to find the words because it’s easier to be hard wired to find fault, feel angry, feel like a victim. But once those feelings melt away, the pure essence of God’s love remains. What a wonderful way to start the day. And then I imagined a sea of humanity standing, holding hands, with eyes closed – breathing in God’s Love and just being still.
