Ten-year-old Brianna Gardiner has a dream. Last year, she came up with the idea for a worldwide day of hope where people could come together to hope and pray. She’s now on her way to seeing her dream manifested this Monday, June 21st, as the inaugural World Hope Day is launched.
It started with an idea, and then a letter to Congress that never got mailed. Brianna’s mom discovered the letter one day while cleaning up Brianna’s room, and found that it gave her hope. So work began to bring the idea to fruition.
Brianna’s vision is for World Hope Day to be one where “everybody [comes] together to hope or pray for things we and other people need most to make a better world.” During a recent interview Brianna she said “my family, we believe that if you send your thoughts out to the Universe, or the higher power, that something good will come of it.” By bringing people from all over the world together in prayer and hope, she hopes to create a ripple effect of goodness.
Brianna’s original plan had been to launch World Hope Day on February 5th, her birthday. However, the logistics of setting up the World Hope Day website and getting the word out meant she needed a bit more time. So she selected the first day of summer for what she is hoping will become a annual celebration of hope. “Everybody needs a little hope for something,” she said. “I want to make it a worldwide holiday.”
She found volunteers to help with website and logo design, and now that school is out for the summer, Brianna is hard at work getting word out about the day. “I hope that everyone who believes in this stuff will join me and other people around the world to celebrate World Hope Day and send their thoughts out or pray,” said Brianna.
When asked what she will be hoping for on Monday, Brianna responded “a better economy, homes for the homeless, food for the hungry, stuff like that.” Amen.
What will be your prayer on World Hope Day?

Brianna,
I hope all your dreams will come true. You are an inspiration. I shall do something special for somebody in the spirit of World Hope Day.
after seeing the letter that Brianna wrote it actually moved me to tears to think that a young lady could conceive and believe in something so special. It gives me hope for all of our futures that little souls like this exist in our lives. Dr Michael Breneman
Hi Brianna,
I think what you are doing is really fantastic! are you sure you’re just 10?
The world could certainly use a little more HOPE and prayer and good will toward each other. As your Hope Day approaches (and I think the first day of summer is a perfect day for this event!) I’ll be thinking of ways to make a difference and bring a little hope and cheer to someone less fortunate. I hope in this small way, I can contribute to a growing worldwide phenomenon you started……Hope Day !!
Congratulations on launching what I’m sure will become a well known special day on the World’s calendars one day!
